Fairmont Scottsdale Princess

S’moresland Installation

Project

As a Christmas experience, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort hosted a family-friendly themed attraction during the holiday season. They requested Merestone build immersive scenic installations for their S’moresland ticketed event. The planning for this scale of creation began months prior with intensive collaboration and loads of coffee. First, Creative Services sketched and designed digital renders of the S’moresland archway, campfires, and s’mores flag pillars. Amazed by the visuals, the client approved and Merestone moved forward with fabrication.

Creating a Scene

The imaginative engineers, carpenters, and painters at Merestone’s scenic shop needed to capture the look of real s’mores. The texture of graham crackers was closely studied to replicate in the sculpting of the archway and pillars. While the carpenters researched texture, Merestone’s painters examined how toasty marshmallows change color when held over a flame. To give the impression the marshmallows were fluffy, the team carved them to billow out and have a round look. Each section of s’mores tilted left or right but stacked up perfectly to form the archway and pillars. Once the scenic pieces were finished, Merestone delivered them to the resort and set them up perfectly for visitors to enjoy. They looked good enough to eat.

S’mores aren’t the only delicious snack Merestone can create! Check out the popsicles made for the BEST. SUMMER. EVER. attraction:
